"The life we live is a series of
Fragments and fences...
Snatches and memories,
Color flashes and poetry,
Script and Scraps So fleeting. We almost pass them by..."
These fragments, flashes, and passions are what distinguishes Marianne
Larsen Reninger's 40 year body of work from other mixed media artists.
Her acrylic paintings and collages are textural, touchable glimpses of
her natural world and her reaction to life's political and social merry-go-round; words become as important as the brush stroke.
Whether it's a 4 x 5 foot atmospheric canyon or a tiny "outsider" farm scene, each piece speaks of careful hours of thought and execution. Using contemporary or historic papers, acrylics, inks, computer graphics, canvas or watercolor paper, she weaves stories into "Word Portraits."
At the early age of 16, Marianne began these stories by learning her basics from commercial artist and teacher, Don Breter. Later, after attending classes at San Diego City College, where she studied English literature, her life expanded with the addition of a husband and two children. Her family has always encouraged her art work and added to her full life. After moving to Venice, Fl., she met the prime influence in her artistic career: Artist, Tatiana McKinney. This Russian-born, world-renowned artist became her teacher for over 12 years. From McKinney, she learned to see the "atmosphere between the mountains" ... the "meaning between the words".
Today, she paints from her mountaintop home near Asheville, N.C. Her paintings are meant to be read, like a favorite book, as well as, absorbed, like a visual feast. These works are shared with you as a chance to "meet and speak" with Marianne, an editorial artist.
